Carolyn Shuster Fournier
Franco-American organist and musicologist, Carolyn SHUSTER FOURNIER, began the organ at the age of thirteen with Dr. Gary ZWICKY. She received a Bachelor of Music with honours from Gladys CHRISTENSEN at Wheaton College and a Master of Organ from Yuko HAYASHI at the New England Conservatory in Boston. She studied harpsichord with Mireille LAGACÉ and continuo with John GIBBONS. Coming to Paris in 1981 to study French classical music, she perfected her skills with Marie-Claire ALAIN, André ISOIR, Michel CHAPUIS, Francis CHAPELET and Jean SAINT-ARROMAN. A graduate of the First Organ Prizes at the Conservatories of Rueil-Malmaison and Boulogne-Billancourt, a Master’s degree in Music Education at the Sorbonne and a PhD in Music Education at the University of Tours, she was an organist at the American Cathedral in Paris in 1988 and 1989. Carolyn is currently the emeritus organist of the Cavaillé-Coll choir organ at the Church of the Holy Trinity, a parish she served for thirty-three years as an organist and conducting the weekly concerts she founded with Olivier MESSIAEN. She has given more than 750 recitals at prestigious festivals and on historic organs in Europe and the United States. In 2007, the Minister of Culture honored her with the distinction of Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters.
