Social psychologist, Jean-Luc Dumont supported a thesis for the doctorate ( psychology) in 1974 on the issue of juvenile delinquency in Black Africa (University of Paris VII). His research is more oriented towards the question of the integration of migrants in urban areas in France (social dynamics and immigration) with a methodology: the life stories approach as a means of analysis of experiential knowledge and identification of personal and professional project.  His professional activities are : teaching and research in African universities occupied, under the ministry of Cooperation (Mali, Burkina Faso, Congo) and in French universities (Lyon II, Paris XIII, Besançon) under the ministry of National Education and also under Regional Institutes of Social Work (Paris, Besançon).
