This 40th issue of the electronic review “Les rives de l’iriv” are focused on hope, which is a resistance's best ally. We dedicate it to the creation of radio (1921-2021), a medium which allowed French people, and Europeans, to resist by listening to "Radio Londres", the name given to a French language programs broadcasted during the Second World War after the 18th of June 1940 appeal by the General de Gaulle. It marked the entry into resistance against the Vichy government, which organized collaboration with Nazi Germany. "Radio Londres" broadcast until October 1944 from the studio of the French section of the BBC; the victory of the Allies was the end of the epic. Since the Cold War, the radios "Radio Free Europe" and "Voice of America" have been weapons of "soft-power" for the United States of America to promote democracy and freedom of expression in the countries of Eastern Europe and to fight against Soviet and then Russian propaganda. In 2021, the journalists of "Radio Free Europe" are still facing financial and administrative harassment from the Russian authorities to prevent them from working in complete independence and serenity.
