This newsletter is the 6th published in 2026 and the 52nd since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. June, the sixth month of the year under the sign of a change on the move for Europe and the Ukrainians; the membership to the EU is nearer and nearer. June 6, 1944, was a turning point in our history. Nazi Germany was beginning a certain agony. The Russian president, increasingly isolated and challenged by his public opinion yet manipulated and instrumentalized, has seen the accumulation of signals of bad augur – Russia lost ground in Africa, its allies in the Middle East are defeated or in poor position, China is providing Russians with conditional support. Ukraine is getting better; the conflict in the Middle East has won it new supporters in the Gulf countries, impressed by its expertise in modern warfare (drones). The European Union is undergoing a certain transformation, slowly but surely. Aware that it must defend its identity and organize its own defense, it is building a European NATO, with member countries rearming themselves and turning to their allies in Europe to equip themselves. Attacked by declared enemies, reluctant to its values and eager to see it disappear (Russia, China and their allies), the European Union has managed to confront successive crises (global pandemic, European war, AI threat) while remaining grouped. The illusions of peaceful relations with Russia have finally disappeared – the European Union is ready for the fight.
